In this issue of CANiK News, we are honored to feature two key figures united under CANiK, the flagship brand of Samsun Yurt Savunma, who contribute significantly to value creation in the Turkish defense and aerospace sector: Erdem Bayraktar and Gülay Hançer. Erdem Bayraktar, the Assistant Chief of Medium Caliber Weapons, and Gülay Hançer, a Transport Operations Personnel, both continue their personal and professional development as members of the CANiK family, sharing their experiences and insights into what it means to be part of CANiK with CANiK News.
CANiK News: When did you join the CANiK family? What were the main factors influencing your decision?
Erdem BAYRAKTAR: As a new graduate, I had many hopes, dreams, and ideals for the future. Despite facing challenges, I knew I needed to advance into adulthood with a solid plan and confidence. The company policy I observed during my university internship at CANiK greatly impressed me. I joined the CANiK family in 2013, believing it would contribute to my personal development and continuous growth, and as of now, I have been working at CANiK for 11 years.
Gülay HANÇER: I have been working at CANiK since June 2022. I joined the CANiK family to develop myself in the defense and aerospace industry, and looking back, I'm glad I did. Although I consider myself relatively new to the CANiK family compared to other colleagues, the work environment and strong relationships make me feel as though I've been here for many years.
CANiK News: Can you briefly describe your role and work environment here?
Erdem BAYRAKTAR: Throughout my tenure, the experience I have gained in production has allowed me to progressively take on the roles of shift line manager, department manager, and assistant chief. I start my day by reviewing the work done the previous day, then plan and monitor the tasks for the current day and conclude accordingly.
Gülay HANÇER: I work in the shipping department, the final step before the firearms are dispatched. Our unit requires care, attention, and precision since the end-user receives the products after our check. I perform my job with great pleasure and meticulousness.
CANiK News: What has working at CANiK brought to your life?
Erdem BAYRAKTAR: Working at CANiK has enriched me with many skills, including communication, team spirit, quality production, decision-making, lean production, improvement, benchmarking, and active thinking.
Gülay HANÇER: I feel strong and happy since I started working at CANiK. I discovered my interest in the defense and aerospace industry, especially the firearms sector, and I want to further develop myself in this area. Being part of CANiK provides significant advantages in this respect.
CANiK News: What do CANiK’s mission and values mean to you?
Erdem BAYRAKTAR: As an individual who aims for constant development and improvement by keeping up with technology as it evolves every day, CANiK’s mission and values align perfectly with my life philosophy, which is why I work with the same enthusiasm and zeal after 11 years.
Gülay Hançer: CANiK is a company that aims to be a brand in Türkiye and worldwide, has succeeded in this, and has proven itself. I feel very fortunate to be part of this family that prioritizes work ethics, trust, and integrity, and focuses on customer satisfaction.
CANiK News: What kind of experience do you have with teamwork, collaboration, and communication within the CANiK family?
Erdem BAYRAKTAR: Given my role, I work with my team, sharing the same discipline and understanding of quality with them. The fact that we always produce consistent results by dividing tasks without compromising the quality of our work stems from our strong team spirit and communication.
Gülay HANÇER: Our healthy communication with our managers, supervisors, and other higher-ups, their consideration of our suggestions, and our ability to work solution-oriented, increase our motivation. We have a sort of harmony with our colleagues; thus, we work more efficiently.
CANiK News: What do you think about the development opportunities and training possibilities CANiK offers you?
Erdem BAYRAKTAR: CANiK always supports us with training to improve ourselves and keep up with evolving technology so that we can be the best in our field. This allows me to continuously update and develop myself, and it helps me dedicate myself to work.
