CANiK Met with Future Leaders at YTU Defense Industry Summit
The Defense Industry Summit, organized by the Yıldız Technical University (YTU) Defense Industry Technologies Community, took place on March 4 and 5 at the YTU Davutpaşa Campus Historical Turkish Bath, with CANiK as the main sponsor. Didem Aral, Board Member responsible for Foreign Trade at CANiK, and Gençay Gençer, Manager of Corporate Communication, Business Development, and Brand Management at CANiK, informed participants about Samsun Yurt Savunma, the parent company of CANiK.
CANiK reaffirmed its commitment to university-industry collaboration by sponsoring the third Defense Industry Summit organized by the YTU Defense Technologies Community, celebrating 25 years with a vision to be a global player. SYS, known for its innovative and visionary approach in the defense sector, aims to drive innovation in the industry by collaborating with university students who are the future leaders and thinkers. The event attracted significant interest from students aiming for careers in the defense industry, as well as from academics and students interested in the field.
“No Room for Restrictions at CANiK”
Didem Aral began her speech by addressing the audience as “potential colleagues,” stating, “At CANiK, we do not discriminate or emphasize gender, language, or religion in any of our communications—it is strictly prohibited. From our dress code to our corporate communication policies, we have fostered a fully inclusive environment that supports diversity and promotes open communication. We operate across a vast global geography, working with over 60 countries, and 95 percent of our production is exported. In 2023, our exports reached $133 million. We collaborate with people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Inherently, there is no room for restrictions in our nature. We have employees in many regions, from the USA to Europe.”
Aral encouraged students to persevere through their internships, adding, “The path is rough, life is not easy, and it never will be; however, that is the essence of evolution. Stepping out of your comfort zone is where evolution begins. A little stress can enhance your career. Do not give up easily; challenges will only make you stronger, rest assured. I am very excited to work with this generation.”
“We Changed the Global Perception of Pistols”
Gençay Gençer, provided insights about SYS and the entities within its ecosystem, including UNIDEF, UNIROBOTICS, MECANiK, CANiK Academy, and AEI Systems. Gençer highlighted that CANiK accounted for 75 percent of Türkiye's firearms exports and 100 percent of heavy machine gun exports, saying, “CANiK is not only Türkiye’s national pistol and heavy machine gun brand but also the chosen service pistol brand of approximately 23 other countries. If you supply a substantial portion of a country’s military inventory, you essentially manufacture their national firearms. Our journey began with pistols. We are the largest in Türkiye and among the top five global companies in our field. We are a company that has redefined the global perception of pistols and significantly influenced the industry after 25 years of dedication. Currently, over 6.5 million law enforcement officers worldwide choose CANiK products. Our vision for 2024 is to achieve a turnover of $200 million.” Following the presentations, a question-and-answer session was conducted. Staff from the CANiK Human Resources department provided information on career and internship opportunities within the company.
