SYS Group Companies Poised for Continued Global Expansion in 2024
Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS) is set to operationalize its production facilities in the USA in 2024, aiming to not only bolster its market share in the Turkish defense and aerospace sector but also make significant strides on the global stage through strategic investments in research and development (R&D) and technology. SYS already holds a considerable share in Turkey's growing defense and aerospace exports and is gaining recognition globally for its products and integration solutions. In an exclusive interview with CANiK News, Didem Aral, Member of the Board Responsible for Foreign Trade of SYS, shared insights into the strategies, successes, and plans of SYS group companies in the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and American markets.
CANiK News: How can Turkey's efforts to establish strong collaborations in the defense and aerospace sector in the Middle East contribute to regional security and stability? What strategic steps should Turkish companies take to succeed in the Middle East market?
Didem ARAL: Our primary goal is to increase defense exports, aligning with Turkey's broader export objectives. State institutions, private foundation companies, and the sector collectively strive to boost Turkish defense exports. We are taking strategic steps and making investments to achieve this, resulting in the anticipated successes of SYS group companies. Evolving political and commercial ties between Turkey and Middle Eastern countries present significant market opportunities. These countries' investments in defense and security create avenues for Turkish companies to export products and services. Strengthening relations can facilitate technology transfer and knowledge sharing, allowing Turkish companies to access advanced technologies. Improved relations also reduce dependency on specific markets, crucial for a stable and diverse revenue stream. Enhanced relations can strengthen diplomatic ties and potentially garner government support for Turkish companies securing contracts, contributing to stability and security in the region.
Wide Range of Products and Services
CANiK News: Compared to other players in the region, what differentiates SYS group companies, which have attracted attention from military organizations and law enforcement agencies in the Middle East?
Didem ARAL: SYS group companies offer an extensive range of products and services. Our cutting-edge armaments, such as the 30x113mm cannon and CANiK M2 heavy machine gun, are more durable and longer-lasting than alternatives. Additionally, we provide integration solutions with operational advantages and cost reduction, attracting attention in the Middle East. Our pistols, recognized globally and in the American market, along with advanced accessories and integrated logistics support, aim to become the indispensable choice for military and law enforcement forces in the Middle East. Our training programs enable end-users to maximize the performance of CANiK products. We aim to strengthen bilateral relations, bringing projects to life through visits and closer ties.
"Increased Brand Awareness"
CANiK News: You have secured significant tenders in Indonesia and Malaysia. How do you assess the company's influence in the region?
Didem ARAL: Beyond Indonesia and Malaysia, all Asia-Pacific countries pose challenges. Understanding market dynamics and end-user needs, establishing links with strong local partners, and being "ITAR free" have been crucial. Participating in fairs, external visits, and tests increased our company and brand recognition, making us the preferred supplier for forces in the region. Persistence and hard work have been key contributors to our success, and we aim to further increase our market share.
Activities in Latin America
CANiK News: Could you discuss your activities in Latin America and the interest in your brand in the region?
Didem ARAL: Despite political fluctuations, our share in the Latin American civilian market has been growing, driven by our successes in the U.S., local partners, marketing efforts, and a diverse range of accessories. We implement strategic steps and marketing plans to increase our market share in Latin American markets each year.
Decreased Dependency on Imports
CANiK News: Share your thoughts on the recent export successes of the Turkish defense and aerospace sector and the role of the state in these achievements.
Didem ARAL: The defense and aerospace sector should minimize dependency on foreign sources due to its strategic importance. Turkish companies and the industry have made significant advancements, with state support accelerating development and rooting companies in world markets. Security and defense concerns globally provide opportunities for Turkish companies, ensuring greater prospects for the industry.
SYS and Its Goals for 2024

With consistent growth, investments, and operationalization of our U.S. factory in 2024, we aim to achieve a larger global market share. Strengthened by facilities in the UK and Turkey, we ensure sustainable growth and development, increasing SYS's market share and value.
