CANiK Displays Its Power on the Global Stage

CANiK, along with its parent group Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS), has garnered significant attention for its innovation it brought to defense and security technologies, by participating in six different fairs in the last quarter of the year from the USA to Africa, from the Far East to Europe. The company showcased its products and capabilities at global exhibitions, crowning its 25th year with many successes abroad.

CANiK took part at MSPO 2023, which was held between 5 and 8 September 2023 in Poland, continuing its export-focused global exhibition journey in Q4 2023 as well. The company unveiled new products together with SYS group companies and attracted significant attention at MSPO with its newest and quickest-firing fastest member of its heavy machine gun family, CANiK M3, along with its indigenous remote-controlled stabilized weapon system (RCWS) family. The company then took part at DSEI 2023, which was held between 12 and 15 September in London, making a strong showing along with recently-acquired British company AEI Systems.

Export Champion in Firearms

Cahit Utku Aral, General Manager of SYS, stated his excitement about showcasing products under the Turkish flag in the UK with the following words: “In the 100th year of our Republic, we are pleased to contribute to our country’s strong future with our value-added products. As of now, according to the Defense and Aerospace Industry Exporters’ Association (SSI), we the export champion in the firearms category. With our new investment initiatives, we are accelerating our growth in both domestic and international markets.”

"One of Three Companies Producing 30x113 mm Guns"

Aral also shared that the group aims for sales exceeding $400 million across all group companies within five years, and spoke about the acquisition of UK-based AEI Systems in 2022 as follows: “With this acquisition, Türkiye has become a key player in medium-caliber cannon production, especially in 30x113 mm guns. These armaments will be produced both in the UK and Türkiye. The widespread use of these cannons globally has made them critically important. This significant investment allows CANiK to expand its portfolio to medium-caliber guns, following its superiority in firearms, and made it one of the three companies in the world capable of producing 30x113 mm guns. As such, SYS group companies, including CANiK, can now produce 600,000 pistols, 6,000 machine guns, 250 medium-caliber guns, and 250 remote-controlled turrets annually across their facilities spread over three continents.”

VENOM LR Debuts in the USA

CANiK showcased the 30x113 mm VENOM LR produced by AEI Systems, now part of the SYS group, in the USA for the first time at AUSA 2023, which was held between 9 and 11 October in Washington D.C., the capital of the USA. CANiK’s booth also featured TRAKON weapon turret, developed by UNIROBOTICS and armed with VENOM LR. UNIROBOTICS focuses on high-tech, innovative, and competitive turret integration solutions and assumes a vital role in showcasing what next-generation defense systems will bring with TRAKON. Furthermore, TRAKON TARGAN from the TRAKON series of RCWS family is counting down the days to be integrated into Türkiye’s offshore patrol vessels. TRAKON series turrets can fire a wide variety of munitions and, thanks to their lightweight design, can be integrated into different types of land and naval platforms, from 4x4 land vehicles and small boats to main battle tanks and large sea platforms, either remote- or operator-controlled. Aral discussed the fair and stated that they export 95% of their production to 70 countries and mentioned that the necessary roadmaps and action plans are ready for government contracts in the largest arms market, the USA.

CANiK’s Flag Flies in the Far East

CANiK met with visitors in the Far East at the Defense & Security fair held between 6 and 9 November in Bangkok, Thailand. The company displayed its products and capabilities and hosted 14 delegations at its stand throughout the fair. Didem Aral, Member of Board Responsible for Foreign Trade of SYS, said the following: “As CANiK, we continue to showcase our innovative products with cutting-edge technologies proudly across four continents. In this fair, we demonstrated our strength in the Far East with our entire product range. We concluded the fair with excitement and happiness, thanks to the meetings we held for new collaborations and interest we received.”

CANiK took part in the MILIPOL fair, one of Europe's largest fairs for the defense and aerospace sector which was held between 14 and 17 November in Paris, and received new orders for 2024. At MILIPOL 2023, CANiK engaged with over 20 countries, mostly from Africa and Europe.

CANiK’s Final Destination for the Year Was EDEX

CANiK participated in the year’s last fair, EDEX (Egypt Defence Expo), along other SYS group companies, with a wide range of products. The 3rd EDEX held between 4 and 7 December in Cairo, Egypt, and hosted over 400 participating companies. CANiK’s newest member of the heavy machine gun family, CANiK M3, was displayed for the first time in the African market. Cahit Utku Aral, General Manager of SYS, mentioned that they participated in a total of 13 international fairs in 2023 and closed the year with a high increase in turnover: “We concluded the 25th year since our establishment with success beyond expectations, with EDEX being the last of this string of international success for the year. Our main reason for participating in EDEX was both to contribute to warmer relations between the two countries and to revive past significant collaborations. We are concluding 2023 with an export revenue of $145 million and entering 2024 as the leading producer in the heavy machine gun slice of the defense sector. Next year, we start exporting our VENOM LR and our new RCWS family, TRAKON and TRAKON TARGAN that we launched this year. 2024 will again be a busy year filled with fairs for us.”
