Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS) garnered great acclaim with the products it launched at IDEF 2023, and the company continues its journey through global fairs for its export-oriented activities with some of the world’s most prestigious fairs: MSPO 2023 in Poland, followed by DSEI 2023 in the United Kingdom. The latest products unveiled by SYS, including its flagship brand CANiK and other group companies, will serve as the new drivers of high-value exports. With the addition of CANiK M3, the latest member of CANiK’s heavy machine gun family with the fastest rate of fire, and stabilized remote-controlled weapon systems (RCWS) like the TRAKON family, among other products, SYS aims to achieve 45 percent growth for the year 2023.
New Products on Display in Europe
CANiK set its course to the United Kingdom after participating in MSPO 2023, Eastern Europe’s oldest defense fair, held between 5 and 8 September in Kielce, Poland, to end 2023 with the highest recorded order volume to date and further increase it in 2024. CANiK and other SYS group companies participated in the DSEI fair, held between 12 and 15 September in London. Following SYS’ acquisition of the UK-based AEI Systems, one of the world’s three medium-caliber cannon manufacturers, CANiK is among the hosts at DSEI. The company presented a wide range of products, from pistols to heavy machine guns, from medium-caliber guns to remotely operated weapon turrets, to European users and other participants at the fair to celebrate this opportunity.
Two Important Countries, Two Critical Fairs
C. Utku Aral, General Manager of SYS, noted that there are numerous defense and aerospace agreements between Türkiye and the United Kingdom and Poland, saying, “The United Kingdom has the second-largest defense budget in NATO. Furthermore, Poland shares a land border with Belarus and thus Russia, and as such serves as an outpost for European borders, which makes it one of the most strategic countries in today’s Europe. Therefore, these two countries have always been important markets for the defense and aerospace sector globally. While DSEI is the premier league of the world’s largest defense and aerospace companies, MSPO holds the distinction of being the oldest defense fair in Eastern Europe.”
Targeting $400 Per Kilogram in Exports
Aral also stated that they were proudly representing Türkiye in these fairs and that they were helping the Turkish defense and aerospace sector, the rising star of the global defense sector, make waves across the entire globe. He then continued: “CANiK and our other group companies, have made important preliminary agreements in Poland and the United Kingdom, with the former being especially strategically important. I am proud to share that our companies were among the stars in both fairs, and we have presented the entire product range of UNIROBOTICS, which has one of the world’s largest stabilized RCWS product families at both fairs. Our completely indigenous and national turrets will be a significant force multiplier for allied and friendly countries, and they will be the catalyst for raising our high-value product exports. With new orders, we aim to surpass $400 per kilogram in our export value.”
The Heavy Machine Gun Manufacturer with the Widest Product Range
CANiK introduced the M3 heavy machine gun, the newest and fastest-firing addition to its heavy machine gun family, and presented it abroad for the first time at MSPO 2023 in Poland, and unveiled its UNIROBOTICS-developed TRAKON RCWS family to a foreign audience at DSEI 2023. Following the delivery of the now combat-proven CANiK M2 QCB 12.7 mm heavy machine gun to Turkish service, CANiK also launched the CANiK M2F, capable of firing 950 rounds per minute, in the fall season of the previous year. IDEF 2023 marked the grand unveiling of CANiK M3, the lightest and fastest-firing version of the family that is capable of firing between 1,100 to 1,200 rounds per minute. With the M3, CANiK became the company with the widest product range of 12.7 × 99 mm caliber heavy machine guns.
