CANiK had a significant impact at IDEF 2023, one of the world's most prestigious defense industry fairs, hosting over 25,000 visitors from over 40 countries and a total of 15 official delegations at its booth. CANiK and other Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS) subsidiaries and brands signed 11 preliminary agreements in total during the fair. CANiK is one of the strongest players at IDEF and one of Turkey's leading global brands, and it became the center of attention not only for the national and international media but also for the public with its ambitious products that act as force multipliers in the defense and aerospace sector.
This year IDEF was held for the 16th time, between 25-28 July at the TÜYAP İstanbul Fair and Congress Centre, where CANiK and its products enjoyed the limelight, especially from European, African, Far Eastern, and Gulf countries. C. Utku Aral, General Manager of SYS, stated the following regarding the fair: “Once again, we have proven the strength of our country in the defense and aerospace sector.”, and followed it up with “We have witnessed that friendly and allied countries have in the Turkish defense and aerospace sector once again at IDEF.” Regarding future collaborations, Aral emphasized that the fair marked "the beginning of a new era" and shared, "This fair presented the achievements of our defense and aerospace sector in the 100th anniversary of our Republic. I wholeheartedly believe that it will be the beginning of a golden age for Türkiye."
VENOM LR, CANiK M3, and the TRAKON Product Family Displayed for the First Time
SYS had acquired the UK-based AEI Systems, one of the world's leading medium-caliber cannon manufacturers, and it showcased the VENOM LR medium-caliber cannon, one of the company’s most renowned offerings in the fair. Additionally, the company presented CANiK M3, an enhanced version of the CANiK M2 QCB with an increased rate of fire, for the first time. Furthermore, UNIROBOTICS, a SYS subsidiary, introduced the remote-controlled stabilized weapon system (RCWS) with the highest specs in its class ever developed for manned/unmanned land and sea platforms. The introduction of the VENOM LR and CANiK M3, combined with the previously launched M2 QCB and M2F, solidified CANiK's position as the company with the widest 12.7x99 heavy machine gun product range.
Aral also provided insights on the unveiled products, sharing: “We have produced an advanced version of our national 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, that fires at a rate of 1,100-1,200 rounds per minute, with 5.1 kg reduced weight and a fully automatic firing mechanism with our CANiK M3. The VENOM LR, produced under our AEI Systems brand, is the most adaptable medium-caliber cannon in the entire world. Thanks to its reduced recoil and adjustable rate of fire, VENOM LR can be integrated into naval vessels, land vehicles, or aircraft. We also unveiled our national RCWS family, developed by our subsidiary UNIROBOTICS, including TRAKON, TRAKON TARGAN, TRAKON Crew, and TRAKON Lite.”
CANiK Focuses on Exports
CANiK attracted great attention at IDEF 2023, and the company continues its journey through international fairs for its export efforts in September, visiting Poland and the United Kingdom. CANiK, as well as other subsidiaries under the SYS umbrella, is introducing its newest products, first showcased at IDEF 2023, to international audiences. CANiK will participate in MSPO 2023, Eastern Europe's oldest defense fair, held in Poland between 5-8 September, to advance its efforts. Following this fair, CANiK sets its sights on the United Kingdom for DSEI 2023, the 22nd iteration of one of the world's largest defense and security exhibitions, held between 12 and 15 September. CANiK and its sister companies will showcase a wide range of products, from pistols to anti-aircraft weapons, medium-caliber cannons and even RCWSs. CANiK Store and CANiK Academy will also be present, hosting visitors from all over the world. CANiK is targeting a 45 percent growth for the year 2023 and plans to accelerate its future orders for 2024 with these exhibitions in Poland and the United Kingdom.
AEI Systems Under CANiK’s Umbrella for the First Time
Aral also stated that they were proud of the successes that the Turkish defense and aerospace sector achieved in the international stage and that they were doing their best to contribute to these successes as CANiK, and added: “At every international fair we attend, we encounter intense interest and praise for Turkish companies. As such, as a global brand emerging from Türkiye, we are pleased to showcase our high-tech products with unmatched quality in other countries as well. The newest member of the SYS company group, AEI Systems, will be presenting its medium-caliber cannons in its home country under CANiK’s umbrella at an international fair for the first time.
2024 Will Be the Year of AEI Systems and UNIROBOTICS
Aral noted that there are numerous defense and aerospace agreements between Türkiye and the United Kingdom and Poland, saying, “The United Kingdom has the second-largest defense budget in NATO. Furthermore, Poland shares a land border with Belarus and thus Russia, and as such serves as an outpost for European borders, which makes it one of the most strategic countries in today’s Europe. Therefore, these two countries have always been important markets for the defense and aerospace sector globally. While DSEI is the premier league of the world’s largest defense and aerospace companies, MSPO holds the distinction of being the oldest defense fair in Eastern Europe. We expect to sign new agreements with allied and friendly countries and enter new markets in our adventures in the United Kingdom and Poland. We believe that 2024 will significantly accelerate the orders we receive, thanks to the fairs in the United Kingdom and Poland. 2024 will be the year of AEI Systems and UNIROBOTICS.”
