Canik Academy, established in 2021, does not only provide training and consultancy services but also support the match practices and training of Canik Team, founded for the first time in Turkey with the support of the defence industry as a contribution to sport shooting in Turkey as a goodwill gesture, in national and international competitions in this field. Preparations for the IDPA European Championship Italy TIER IV match, planned to be held in Italy in 2022, have already started. So, how important is sport shooting?

Let's take a closer look at its recent history before talking about "Sport shooting", which we have heard about recently.

Sport shooting’s origins date back to the 15–16th centuries. The oldest preserved historical record of this activity is found in Swiss drawings made in 1504.

Sport shooting was a symbol of high social status among the British aristocracy (Martin 2012). Sport shooting has been an Olympic discipline since the 1896 Summer Olympics held in Athens. At the 1906 Summer Olympics, the competition was extended with the inclusion of pistol duelling.

One of the most significant moments was when in 1907 the International Shooting Union was established in Zurich (the current name, Inter-national Shooting Sport Federation).

Later, International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), established in Columbia in 1950, officially declared the discipline an international sport designed for both uniformed services and civilians by improving shooting skills, and promoting the development of firearm production. As a result of the fact that dynamic (practical) shooting changed its status, in 1996 a new federation called the International Defensive Shooting Association (IDPA) was established in 1996. IDPA did not support the resignation to an exclusively defensive character of the discipline but also, they opposed reducing the use of factory produced firearms in favour of individually adjusted and remade models.1

Sport shooting, a complex sport discipline, is an area which requires a high degree of motor skill use and stability. The essential physical and mental skills in this area can be listed as follows: aiming time, hand grip strength, shot accuracy, trigger manipulation and trigger timing, posture control.2 Therefore, sport shooting requires high psychomotor skills, physical endurance, stance control, flexibility, dynamic balance, maximum breath control and advanced shooting skills. Moreover, while providing a serious benefit in improving the internal disciplines of individuals; it also helps to increase their physical and mental skills significantly. Under consideration of all these, both the effects and activities in the field of sport shooting and the demographic evolution of firearm users can be easily mentioned. Thanks to the development of personal defence and performance-based sports shooting, the profile of the gun user has also transformed within the framework of dynamics that are more social, more complex and involve more network of relationships.3 In fact, the number of clubs established in this field and athletes while increasing the number of competitions, with the increasing interest in sports shooting in Turkey.

Samsun Yurt Savunma also contributes to this change in the field of sport shooting; Canik Team will continue to stand by its shooters in Italy with the match practices and training support with Canik Academy, and provides with the “SFx RIVAL” designed for the competition world.
