The 15th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF’21), the most important meeting platform of the defense industry, witnessed important cooperation between countries and companies at the Fair and Congress Center in Istanbul Büyükçekmece. The domestic and national anti-aircraft gun was exhibited for the first time at IDEF’21 by Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS), one of the world’s leading light weapon manufacturers, under the CANiK brand, made its mark on the fair.
E mphasizing that the domestic and national antiaircraft gun they exhibited for the first time at IDEF’21 met with great interest, SYS General Manager C. Utku Aral said, “We spent this year’s fair very active in terms of bilateral meetings. With more than 30 delegations from abroad, we had critical meetings with very large companies, especially Turkey’s largest land vehicle companies. I can say that these meetings will bring about long-term cooperation. One of the favorites of the fair, our anti-aircraft gun attracted attention with its superior technology. In response to this interest, we will develop new versions. At this fair, we exhibited versions with 600 and 850 RPM. At the next fair, we will exhibit the 1100 RPM version. We will work on new versions of the anti-aircraft gun that have been reduced in weight and supported by accessories so that they can jump with a parachute and perform their duties. We are even planning to switch to several different calibers.”
Export with the power of R&D
Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS), one of the world’s leading manufacturers of light arms, exhibited Turkey’s domestic and national anti-aircraft gun, developed as a result of its R&D studies since 2012, at the fair for the first time and represented the domestic and national power of the Turkish defense among world’s giants. The company, which made a promotional show at the fair with all its brands, UNIDEF and UNIROBOTICS for the defense industry, left its mark on the fair with the “CANiK M heavy2 QCB 12.7 mm machine” as Turkey’s ‘domestic and national anti-aircraft gun’. Aral stated that they will continue their R&D studies in the face of the interest in the CANiK M2 QCB 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, which has succeeded in receiving orders of up to 1,200 from countries such as Iraq, Kuwait and Nigeria, and said “We started the mass production and export activities of our anti-aircraft gun. We made our first delivery to Kuwait. In the coming period, while developing new versions of our product through R&D studies, we will accelerate our export activities based on the connections we established at the fair.”
Became a brand in mechanical integration
IDEF’21, along with products such as active stabilizing weapon system (ADSM) and anti-drone systems with domestic and national anti-aircraft systems attracted great attention, Aral said: “Mechanical integration has now become a concept identified with the CANiK brand. We have a different position in the sector with the mechanical integration solutions we offer in all the products we develop. Electromechanical systems are a new capability that we have acquired together with robotic systems. In the fair, our products with electromagnetic systems attracted great attention. On the other hand, CANiK M2F, the Bombus Gun Pod equipped with our niche product, received
attention by the Philippine Air Force. In the coming period, we will focus on electromagnetic systems in R&D studies.
Cooperation with Turkey’s largest land vehicle companies
Aral noted that they observed an increase in the interest of visitors to the CANiK stand compared to the previous IDEF, and said “Through the fair, we have established important connections with companies at the point of project development within the scope of commercial cooperation. Turkey’s largest land vehicle companies visited us many times to integrate the systems we developed into their vehicles. IDEF’21 will provide great gains in terms of production and new collaborations” and pointed out that the development process of new products will accelerate.
New business opportunities in the African market
Stating that IDEF’21 will create serious business opportunities for defense industry companies in the African market, Aral said, “Africa created a high representation power at the fair by high-level officials such as the Minister of Defense and the Force Commander. We, as Samsun Yurt Savunma, made our negotiations to bring our gun products, especially domestic anti-aircraft gun, to the African market and to create a permanent value in the region. We will take the gains of these negotiations in the coming period”.
Time and cost advantage for aerial platforms
Adding to his words that they will accelerate production and export activities as a company that exports 95 percent with the long-term cooperations developed in IDEF’21, Aral also drew attention to the fair’s approach that offers solutions to the problems of the sector. Aral stated that “The solution offered by our President of Defense Industry was important, especially for the problem of qualification in terms of aerial platforms. We we going to do the controls of the aircrafts we developed in Turkey abroad. Thanks to this solution, we will be able to do this in our country. This development will bring us both time and cost advantages.”
