UNIROBOTICS Enters Medium Calibre Weapon Turrets with TRAKON 30
UNIROBOTICS aims to provide TRAKON 30 remote controlled stabilised turret as a qualified product next year, as it continues to develop the system. The turret is equipped with a cannon chambering 30 x 113 mm round, and with its light weight and effectiveness, it aims to be the weapon of choice for land and naval platforms. UNIROBOTICS also showcased its TRAKON 30 mounted on Nurol Makina’s EJDER YALÇIN 4x4 vehicle at Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) 2022 that was held in the United Kingdom on 21-22 September, raising international awareness.
UNIROBOTICS is expanding its remote-controlled stabilised turret efforts to include a 30 mm weapon after 12.7 mm. The company is actively working on TRAKON 30, one of the products included in the company’s R&D and indigenous product development roadmap.
Light Weight Inherited from Product Family
UNIROBOTICS develops its remote-controlled stabilised turrets as a product family. The company’s first such product was the TARGAN remote-controlled stabilised turret, to be used in Offshore Patrol Vessels that will be constructed by ASFAT for Turkish Naval Forces Command. UNIROBOTICS signed the contract on the development, production, and delivery of said turret, ready for integration, on 1 September 2021 with HAVELSAN. HAVELSAN is a subcontractor for said Offshore Patrol Vessel project under main contractor ASFAT, responsible for mission systems.
TRAKON 30 turret is another member of this family. All the members of the family use the same infrastructure. This infrastructure, with its innovative and lightweight design, allows for a variety of weapon systems to be integrated.
Members of the product family are produced to reliably function in sea conditions, regardless of where they will be used. As such, they all have high corrosion resistance. Small dimensions, aerodynamical and low radar cross section design are also among the properties of this product family.
Ömür Baç, Founding Partner and General Manager of UNIROBOTICS has shared the following on the innovative features of TRAKON that puts the system one step ahead of the competition: “TRAKON became a reality through our expertise in mechanics, electronics and software, our knowledge we have acquired with R&D, and the works we have performed in our testing infrastructure. We have colleagues with experience in defence industry, but this experience has not gained through large corporate structures with a different culture than what we have. As such, we can easily find new viewpoints. With our partners, we can access weapon systems and our staff then uses these systems for R&D efforts, creating an important difference.
All these factors ensured TRAKON would be a different and innovative product. As we can integrate different weapon systems on the same infrastructure, we have advantages in both costs and speed to delivery. We can quickly produce the products that are demanded. I must say with proudly that we accomplish these tasks in a disrupted supply chain environment around the world.
The electro-mechanical systems, stabilisation algorithms, and the fire control system ensures the weapon systems integrated into TRAKON offer their full capabilities.”
Firepower from 30x113 mm Cannon
TRAKON 30 brings a lightweight structure and the firepower of 30x113 mm cannon together. The cannon’s recoil has been reduced to 7 kN thanks to damping systems, while its firepower creates a significant difference in frontlines. The cannon can use both high-explosive and armour-piercing munitions. As such, it offers the highest firepower that is needed from a 4x4 vehicle in urban warfare conditions.
Baç highlights that TRAKON 30 turret can be equipped by 30 mm cannons from a variety of manufacturers: “Various manufacturers produce 30 mm cannons around the world. As UNIROBOTICS we have an extensive know-how on weapon system integration and as such we are able to equip TRAKON 30 with 30 mm cannons from different producers. I can say that we have been in touch with various organisations and that we plan to reveal new developments in this area.”
4x4 Vehicles to Enjoy Greater Prominence in Battlefields
TRAKON 30 can be integrated into the lightest members of tactical military vehicles, namely, 4x4 ones and can be effectively used in these vehicles as well. The turret accomplishes this with its light weight and easy-to-integrate design. TRAKON 30 gives these vehicles the capability to be used at the frontlines, as its 30x113 mm cannon can be used against a variety of targets. TRAKON 30 and EJDER YALÇIN duo precisely accomplishes that.
Nurol Makina and UNIROBOTICS showcased EJDER YALÇIN armoured vehicle equipped with the concept design of TRAKON 30 mm remote controlled turret at DVD 2022 event, held in the United Kingdom on 21-22 September.
Baç stated the following on this integration effort: “We have made a successful concept demonstration on EJDER YALÇIN. Low recoil 30 mm cannons have started to be mounted on 4x4 vehicles around the world. To present a solution like this we collaborated with Nurol Makina, showcasing our solution to the world at DVD 2022.”
TRAKON 30 and EJDER YALÇIN Rallied Together at DVD 2022
EJDER YALÇIN mounting the concept design of TRAKON 30 turret also performed demonstration drives on an off-road circuit. The vehicle was on the field both days of the event, enjoying great interest from participants. The participants also included personnel from various armed forces, and they had the chance to test EJDER YALÇIN in field conditions.
A Solution that Is Cost-Effective, High-Tech, and without Export Restrictions
Baç highlights that TRAKON product family will be a solution that is in high demand, both in Türkiye and abroad: “TRAKON product family provides an effective solution for the battlefields utilising its high technology, while being cost-effective. The weapon systems we have integrated into it, namely CANiK M2 QCB 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and 30x113 mm cannon have no problems getting an export licence. As such, we predict that our TRAKON turrets will serve in the land and naval platforms of Turkish Armed Forces and allied and friendly countries for years to come.”

UNIROBOTICS Accelerates Product Development Processes with Test Infrastructure
Stabilised turrets must work despite challenges that will be certainly present in the field. These systems are tested to ensure they will work in line with the needs of end-users. Today, advanced testing infrastructure make it possible to prove the stabilised systems work as intended without requiring a long and arduous field-testing process. UNIROBOTICS has testing infrastructure set precisely for this purpose.
UNIROBOTICS needed certain development and testing infrastructure as its projects advanced. The company set up a 6-axis steward platform and made it operational for this reason. The steward platform was indigenously developed by a Turkish company, making UNIROBOTICS achieve a high domestic percentage in its testing infrastructure.
UNIROBOTICS tests its stabilisation algorithms on this platform. The company completely eliminated the need for naval tests or land driving tests with this platform and thanks to the mission profiles it uploaded to the platform, it became completely able to test its products in every environment.
