CANiK Made History in Türkiye with Delivering 750 M2 QCB Heavy Machine Guns at Once
Türkiye's indigenous HMG CANiK m2 QCB chambered in 12,7x99mm has entered into service with the Turkish Armed Forces as well as Turkish Law Enforcement Forces (Turkish National Police, Turkish Gendarmerie and Turkish Coast Guard) . The gun was developed within framework of "12,7mm MG for Land, Sea, and Air Platforms Project" which was signed with Defense Industry Agency (SSB). CANiK M2 QCB is the first and, to date, only heavy machine gun (in the largest NATO MG caliber) fully qualified by SSB . It is also to note that CANiK's delivery of 750 HMGs in a single batch in December 2022 made history as it was the largest delivery of 12,7mm HMGs in Turkiye.
CANiK, a subsidiary of Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS) and one of the leading small arms producers in the world, proudly achieved yet another success. CANiK made history in Türkiye by delivering 750 heavy machine guns in total to TAF, TNP, GCG, and TCGC. Development of CANiK M2 QCB started in 2018 with the PMT 12.7 Project that was signed with SSB, and became the only and largest-caliber heavy machine gun made in Türkiye. This delivery of 750 brought this machine gun to the inventories of TAF and Turkish security forces.
CANiK promised to deliver all 750 M2 QCB machine guns by December 2022, and the company enhanced the inventories of Turkish armed and security forces with this delivery. A consensus by the relevant organizations and SSB determined how these machine guns were allocated to the organizations,

C. Utku Aral, General Manager of SYS, shared the following: “As CANiK, we developed the only heavy machine gun in Türkiye with intense efforts by our experienced and expert staff. CANiK M2 QCB became a reality after 3 years and large investments like ₺160 million in R&D and over ₺440 million in industrialization, and we are proud to offer our heavy machine gun to TAF and Ministry of Interior. CANiK M2 QCB became the only firearm in the world to successfully complete its icing and fouling tests. In addition, we broke a world record by achieving a barrel life of 20,000 rounds and made history by passing the toughest qualification tests on the first try without any faults. After this qualification success in August 2022, we achieved yet another record by delivering 750 CANiK M2 QCB heavy machine guns to our security forces in one go. In our republic’s history, delivering a large caliber firearm like this in one batch of 750 units is almost unseen. We thank Defense Industry Agency for entrusting us with such a duty.”
“2 years of capacity reached”
Aral also stated that CANiK has been working hard for its international market targets without skipping a beat and added: “We are continuing to strengthen Turkish economy and advance Turkish development with our CANiK brand that exports to 69 countries in four continents. CANiK received 3,500 confirmed orders for our M2 QCB heavy machine gun so far and we will deliver all these firearms to the security forces of allied and friendly countries.”
Excellent Performance in All Tests
CANiK M2 QCB, the only qualified national heavy machine gun from Türkiye, completed its qualification process, manged by SSB, in August 2022. The qualification was performed in a short period, 40 days, in line with NATO and TOP standards, and CANiK M2 QCB completed all 23 tests in this qualification process successfully in the first try without any faults or mistakes, achieving a never before seen success. This qualification and testing process saw over 200,000 rounds fired. CANiK M2 QCB also completed its icing and fouling tests successfully and became the only firearm in its class around the world to pass these tests. The gun also broke a world record with a barrel life of 20,000 rounds. CANiK M2 QCB’s test performance has been superior to all of its competitors across the globe and the gun has now entered into service with the law enforcement and armed forces of the Republic of Turkiye.
