Passing Qualification Tests Successfully, CANiK M2 QCB Starts Mass Production
The qualification phase of the 12.7 mm Machine Gun for Platforms Project was completed, and mass production of the gun has begun. The Project was initiated by the Defence Industry Agency (SSB) and carried out by Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS).
The qualification phase of the 12.7 mm Machine Gun for Platforms Project was completed, and mass production of the gun has begun. The Project was initiated by the Defence Industry Agency (SSB) and carried out by Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS). The development was announced by Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, President of Defence Industry Agency on August 3.
Within the scope of qualification tests that lasted more than a month, almost 1.000.000 shots were made with CANiK M2 QCB 12.7 mm Heavy Machine Guns. The guns passed 23 different tests according to American TOP and NATO Standards and completed them all successfully without any repetition required. Many tests such as proof firing, water spray (rain), salt fog, low and high temperature, cold weather ice test, chemical contamination was executed during the process. As a result of the carried-out firing and qualification tests, the barrel of the CANiK M2 QCB produced by SYS has been confirmed to have a much higher lifespan than its foreign counterparts and is more durable and reliable. This barrel was produced by SYS using innovative materials and production methods in Türkiye.
Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, President of Defence Industry Agency made the following statements on the qualifications tests: “Türkiye didn't even have a rifle 6-7 years ago. Then we started to produce assault rifles in various calibers. Now, we even started to produce the high-caliber weapons, which we were imposed embargos. Our 12.7 mm machine gun is designed to shoot with high speed on various platforms as well. We have started the mass production of our 12.7 mm machine gun, whose qualification process have been completed successfully. Along with the mass production, deliveries to our security forces will continue. This means that our security forces will be armed with guns that are far superior to their foreign counterparts. I would like to thank everyone who contributed."
C. Utku Aral, General Manager of SYS commented on their success: “As CANiK, we invested ₺160 million in R&D and over ₺440 million in industrialization in a 3-year period. Together with our team, we have developed Türkiye's only and the biggest caliber machine gun, which we have implemented as a result of R&D and tremendous work and thereby marking the end of our country’s import dependency. CANiK M2 QCB is the only gun in the world that has successfully completed cold weather ice test and mud test. In addition, we officially broke the world record with a barrel life of 20,000 rounds and completed the world's most difficult qualification test for 12.7x99 mm heavy machine guns with zero faults without repetition. We would like to express our gratitude for the trust and support given to us by the Presidency of Defence Industry Agency, the armed forces and law enforcement agencies.”
Continuing mass production at full capacity, CANiK M2 QCB does not slowdown in exports as well. CANiK will deliver over 2,000 CANiK M2 QCBs to its foreign end-users this year.
