Raising its export targets every year, Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS) successfully continues to represent Türkiye in the world's largest and most important defense fairs with its CANiK brand. CANiK branded products attracted great attention from sector representatives at every fair, organized in different continents of the world in April, May, and June.
Continuing this year's busy fair calendar with FIDAE held in Chile between April 5-10, CANiK signed a series of cooperation and export agreements for the Latin American market. After Chile, the company first showed up at HuntEX in South Africa on April 22-24, and right after at ADAS in the Philippines on April 27-29. CANiK, paying special attention to the US market, was also at NRA (National Rifle Association) Annual Meetings and Exhibits, one of the most important events in the USA, on May 27-29.
CANiK Receives Thumbs Up from Defense Sector Representatives in FIDAE
CANiK's first stop in April was FIDAE (The International Air and Space Fair), held on April 5-10, in the capital of Chile, Santiago. FIDAE is considered as one of the most important defense fairs in the Latin America region. CANiK showed up various handgun accessories such as MECANiK optic sights developed with new and unique technologies, tactical textiles, and outdoor products along with its CANiK brand handguns at the fair. While BOMBUS gun pod solution developed by UNIDEF and CANiK M2F, advanced version of the CANiK M2 QCB 12.7mm heavy machine gun with a quite higher rate of fire, attracted great attention, CANiK hosted more than 20 delegations from the region and other countries, particularly from Chile, in its booth. The company returned from the fair with signing new cooperation and export agreements with the Latin America countries, Chile being in the first place.
Didem Aral, SYS Foreign Trade Manager and Member of the Board of Directors, expressed the following about the fair: “We take part in all world fairs in the field of defense with our CANiK brand, which exports to 69 countries in 4 continents. Chile is making very serious investments in the aerospace and defense industry. At this point, it was very important for us to take part in FIDAE for the Latin American market, particularly for Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. By signing new collaboration agreements here, we are one step closer to our goal.”
CANiK Branded Products Wave the Turkish Flag in South Africa and the Philippines
The next stops of CANiK were HuntEX held in Johannesburg, South Africa on 22-24 April, and the Asian Defense, Security and Crisis Management Fair (ADAS) organized in the Philippines on 27-29 April respectively. CANiK took important steps towards collaboration and export agreements for the upcoming period in both events. The company showcased CANiK brand handguns, MECANiK brand outdoor activity products and firearms accessories at these fairs. In addition to these, UNIDEF's BOMBUS gun pod was at the company's stand at ADAS. CANiK also achieved an important success at this fair; the company became the first brand to export defense products in the history of the Republic of Türkiye to the Philippines.
Didem Aral, SYS Foreign Trade Manager and Member of the Board of Directors, made evaluations after the fairs, first summarizing the company's HuntEX agenda as follows: “We brought logos of CANiK and Türkiye to South Africa at HuntEX, which is an international fair for hunters, sports shooters, people with personal and defensive protection needs, outdoor enthusiasts and defense industry professionals. MECANiK outdoor products and optics were also in high demand. A pre-agreement was reached with the chain stores where hunting, shooting and outdoor products are sold. We will significantly increase our efficiency in South Africa in the upcoming period”.
Aral also commented about ADAS: “In the history of the Republic of Türkiye, CANiK is the first brand that exports defense product to the Philippines, and most of the pistol inventory of this country's national police consists of our CANiK pistols. The good impression our brand left in this country helped Turkish origin defense products to be sold in the following years. During the fair, we hosted 12 different delegations as CANiK, which is a very well-known brand in the Philippines. We held important meetings with the Philippine Air and Naval Forces and made preliminary agreements. On the other hand, UNIDEF, another SYS subsidiary, attracted great attention at the fair as Türkiye's only and world’s one of the few gun pod manufacturers. UNIDEF's gun pod solution has been watched closely by the Philippine Air Force for a very long time. An agreement-in-principle was signed with the Philippine Air Force delegation, who visited our booth at the fair. We aim to further strengthen our position in this country in the upcoming period.”
Aiming for American Defense Projects, CANiK’s Next Stop is NRA Fair
CANiK, which attaches special importance to the US market, aims to show the American authorities that CANiK is an important defense industry player beyond a small arms manufacturer by participating in fairs in this country. In this context, CANiK participated in NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits held between May 27-29. Its booth showcased CANiK branded pistols, especially METE SFx, METE SFT and SFx RIVAL, MECANiK brand optics and products within the scope of CANiK Official Accessory Program at the fair. CANiK also held various meetings with American distributors regarding the sales of its products of different brands for the period of 2022-2023.
C. Utku Aral, General Manager of SYS shared the following information about their NRA participation: “American market is a market that requires you to analyze it very carefully. The consumer tendencies must be examined thoroughly, and your action plans must be updated constantly. NRA is an essential event in this regard. NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits is one of the most important B2B events in huntsmanship and marksmanship fields. The companies attending this fair generally place their semi-annually and annually orders during this fair. CANiK brand has an extensive user base in the USA. We reach most of these users through our distributors, and as of this moment, all towns in the USA have a gun shop where you can buy licensed CANiK brand products. In this year’s NRA event, we held important talks for our CANiK brand handguns, spare parts and MECANiK brand products to be sold in these shops and received orders for the second half of 2022 and first quarter of 2023.”
Emphasizing that they have achieved great success in the USA recently, Aral stated: “As CANiK, we were the 4th in the world by exports to the USA in 2020, and we ranked 3rd in 2021, rising one place up. With only two new models, we have achieved to reach 100,000 sale figures in a very short time. By way of this fair, we aim to further increase our strength in the USA which is our biggest market. We anticipate that we will reach a sales figure of 95 million dollars in the USA by the end of the year by means of the NRA exhibition.”
